PostSubject: The Same Moon   Mon Nov 24, 2008 5:39 pm

This is my new story which I hope will be a good one. It is about the future, but not in the way you would think. There are no robots or sci-fi gadgets and aliens. It is also hopefully going to bbe a meaningful way to represent that even though we are different, we all share this wonderful Earth and should work together to share it and keep it safe. I wrote the intro and I hope you like it.

The Same Moon

Intro:
Far into the future, too many years gone by to count, the world was very different. There were no humans, no…none at all. Gone…they were all gone. Their last stand was many years in the past. Their defeat? Inevitable. The creatures of the Earth had risen up, new intelligence inside them, and the humans, well. Without claws, fangs, venom, or well… any self-defense, or weapons really, they could not protect themselves. Their buildings have crumbled. The ruins no more than vague memories in history now. Now the Earth was inhabited by only the creatures that the human race had always stepped on, looked down upon, thought themselves superior to. A big mistake on their part. Now the Earth’s creatures had split themselves into groups, evolved nearly beyond recognition. A new world on the same planet it would seem. Divided by their differences, but united by their past and by the goals they share…they quarrel for the authority similar to that which the humans had once had. However, never again would a species treat the rest like dirt, as the humans had. Never again would one group rule the Earth, as the humans had believed they had. Never again would the Earth be maltreated so, as the humans once had. Never again would such an ungrateful, power-hungry race cloud the world as the humans did. Never again…never again… It was a promise made by all creatures so the world would never sink so low, never be so mistreated again. Still, all was not well…the creatures fought and peace was nowhere to be found between the Classes; the Classes into which all creatures fit. But when the night fell and all was silent, they all looked upon the same moon…

This chapter is kinda boring, but I though it was necessary to explain stuff more, so there you have it. The next chapter will have real characters in it though, don't worry.

1. The Classes
In the world, there were four Classes: the Mammals, Reptiles, Birds, and Fish. Any other creatures such as what we know as insects never evolved enough to become intelligent as the others did. The Classes are groups of similar animals that are derived from the same roots and hold similar characteristics to those from when humans were alive. Each Class has distinct characteristics to them that creatures of that Class have. Mammals have much the same traits that the mammals we know have. They have hair. They give birth to live young. They are a mix of both herbivorous and carnivorous animals. Different however is that all mammals had four legs. Where had the monkeys gone? The apes? They had been shunned. None of the others accepted them; they were too much like the humans. The primates wanted nothing to do with any of the others in any case, so lived on an island and in other remote places by themselves; in secret. The Mammals are arguably the most intelligent of the Classes. It is with them that our story begins…

Hope you like it or tolerate it enough to read the next one at least.

Hopefully this one will be more enjoyable, although it doesn't have much action. Just picture it as like a movie. Awww...cute...

2. New Life
Blink…blink… A world opened up before the little creatures’ eyes. Dim as the cave was, the newfound light was blinding to them. They wobbled on their skinny shaky legs, stumbling towards the light. A warm paw rebuffed them and pulled them back into the cave. The scent of their mother’s fur overwhelmed their senses and they squealed with joy.

An enormous shadow blocked the entryway, darkening the cave. The little cubs looked around blinking. Where had the light gone? They wondered. That wonderful warmth…where was it? The mother chuckled as they twisted round and round searching for the light.

“Step aside. They want to see,” she whispered warmly to her mate. Another chuckle and the light breached the cave again. Shock froze the little bodies in their search and they jumped back involuntarily, blinded once more. Slowly the light became less severe. Their eyes were adjusting well; a good sign. After a few minutes of tumbling around, trying to get used to the gravity and the balance that was necessary for walking, the cubs sat down and looked at their mother.

They looked at her for the first time, eyes roving in wonder at the beast before them. She lay comfortably head stretched regally between her paws. Her ears were rounded and her tail was long with a tuft on the end. Her coat was a yellowy brown, shining and glistening as it was. Long, sharp claws fortified the huge paws. Teeth extended over her lower lip, white and pearly. Whiskers frayed along her muzzle and muscles were clearly visible along her strong back. She was a descendant of the lion. Over the years her ancestors had mated with mainly only other lions like themselves, so she retained her lion-like appearance.

The mother stood up, further baffling the cubs and stretched lazily. Without further ado, she plodded over to the great source of light and stepped through. In amazement, the cubs tripped and slid their way toward this magnificent light, but were blocked again by a paw. A slimmer paw this time, lacking long claws. It flicked out gently knocking them back into the depths of the cave. It was the paw of their father.

Hope you liked it! Keep reading! umm...yay! Chapter 3 coming soon! telll me what you think! Ermmm....yeah that's it.
